Hello from the auctomatics

Posted by Harjeet Taggar

We're incredibly excited to have announced our acquisition by Live Current Media. After the mad rush finalizing things over the past few weeks, it's a great feeling to start making our vision for Live Current Media a reality.

Our decision to join the Live Current Media family was not made lightly. We've had an amazing time working on auctomatic over the past year. We've been lucky to have some fantastic investors on our side and we've created a working environment that has left users commenting "you've built more this past week than the other selling tools I've used have built in the past year". Finding a team that really gels under pressure isn't easy and tinkering with it always brings some element of risk.

However we quickly realized after meeting the Live Current Media team in person, that working with them represented a truly special opportunity. There's no doubt Live Current Media has some exciting resources at its disposal but for us, the decision was always going to be based on the people involved. The more time we spent with Geoff, Mark and Jonathan the more we realized there was a potentially fantastic fit here. Other exciting acquisition offers were put on the table but nowhere else did we feel the natural chemistry we had with the Live Current Media team.

We feel that we bring the perfect complement to what already exists here. Building a successful Internet company needs a balance between intense product focus and the ability to execute on broader business and distribution opportunities when they arise. The Internet is our passion and there's nothing we love more than building great web products. We can't wait to start building on some of the amazing resources we have available to us at Live Current. These are exciting times for everyone and we'll be sure to stay plenty vocal on this blog to keep you posted with what's happening inside Live Current Media HQ .

As a longtime communicate.com investor, I appreciate this insightful article. It taught me a lot about where you and your company come from and what you are looking to achieve. I hope that CMNN's great assets combined with your guys' technological skills will lead to greatness.

    Harjeet,

Could you discuss a little more how your existing application will be integrated into LiveCurrent's various platforms? I'm particularly interested in knowing how it can benefit importers.com.

    Thanks,
    Carl

    Hi Carl,

We're still exploring all the potential opportunities we have to make best use of the auctomatic technology. We've thought a lot about how the process of selling online can be vastly enhanced. Importers is certainly one area this could be applied, perfume is another.

We'll update you once things are more fleshed out, if you have any thoughts please do feel free to send them to me and I'd be happy to discuss.

    Hi Harjeet,

Just like to say well done on your fantastic achievement.

What do you think are the future implications for marketing on sites like Ebay using ads as potential revenue generators and live streaming real time videos uploading onto ebay?

    Shane

  5. Harjeet says:

    Hi Shane,

That's an interesting question. Personally I think ads are going to increasingly become less about marketing on destinations like ebay and more about driving traffic to the websites the sellers have created for their own businesses. That's partly due to the increasingly distributed nature of the web and partly because the power of search and seo lets sellers market directly to their customers.

Real time video is an interesting concept, I think it'll be useful for improving the experience of trading certain items that clearly will benefit from it e.g. cars or houses but I'm skeptical about its potential in the context of improving buyer/seller communication - skype is evidence that sellers want to reduce the overhead of communication with buyers, not increase it.

    Thanks, Harjeet.

My only thought about importers.com is that this is as close to ebay as Live Current has. I assume there are many sellers on importers.com that would benefit from your interface. I'm not quite sure I understand how your platform would be used for perfume.com by sellers, unless it's intended to help Live Current staff post items efficiently for sale on the site.

Fantastic. Well done! I read the BBC News everyday and was curious to know what this Oxford Grad had done in Silicon Valley. Congratulations! Please share more of your thoughts and success with us! Your are brave and have proved to us that it is that one step that you must take-risk or not -to make it big! May you go on to greater heights!!!!!

    Hi there,

I saw your Limerick partners ( Patrick and John ) on Irish TV, they really presented themselves well.

They mentioned a US investment company that were involved with both companies at the early stage ( White something I think - I couldn't catch it exactly ).

What was the name of that original US investment company? They sound like a great risk-taking organisation to approach for other young entrepreneurs.

  9. Harjeet says:

    Hey,

The organization is Y Combinator. Fantastic people!

Just a quick question about iplt20.com. I have no idea how involved you have been with the site since the announcement of the IPL deal but I've noticed it has been getting enhanced on a regular basis. However, it also seems to be suffering from regular reliability issues and many times the page fails to load. Is this a known issue that is being worked on?

    Thanks.
