Hello from the auctomatics

We're incredibly excited to have announced our acquisition by Live Current Media. After the mad rush finalizing things over the past few weeks, it's a great feeling to start making our vision for Live Current Media a reality.

Our decision to join the Live Current Media family was not made lightly. We've had an amazing time working on auctomatic over the past year. We've been lucky to have some fantastic investors on our side and we've created a working environment that has left users commenting "you've built more this past week than the other selling tools I've used have built in the past year". Finding a team that really gels under pressure isn't easy and tinkering with it always brings some element of risk.

However we quickly realized after meeting the Live Current Media team in person, that working with them represented a truly special opportunity. There's no doubt Live Current Media has some exciting resources at its disposal but for us, the decision was always going to be based on the people involved. The more time we spent with Geoff, Mark and Jonathan the more we realized there was a potentially fantastic fit here. Other exciting acquisition offers were put on the table but nowhere else did we feel the natural chemistry we had with the Live Current Media team.

We feel that we bring the perfect complement to what already exists here. Building a successful Internet company needs a balance between intense product focus and the ability to execute on broader business and distribution opportunities when they arise. The Internet is our passion and there's nothing we love more than building great web products. We can't wait to start building on some of the amazing resources we have available to us at Live Current. These are exciting times for everyone and we'll be sure to stay plenty vocal on this blog to keep you posted with what's happening inside Live Current Media HQ .

You don't have to take our word for it...

This week we took Live Current to the street to share the strategy and opportunity with media in the US, Canada, Ireland and the UK. This was the true litmus test. Leading technology and business media, bloggers and columnists have now had the chance to kick the proverbial Live Current tires, consider the company's transition to a true media player that is actively scaling its assets into thriving destinations and profitable businesses.

Here's what they think:

CNET News.com: "Canadian media company buys Auctomatic for $5 million"
VentureBeat: "Communicate.com buys e-commerce startup Auctomatic, to relaunch top domains"
Mashable:
"Communicate.com Re-Brands, Acquires Auctomatic"
Seattle Times: "B.C. firm shifts from domain-name game"

This is what we've acquired

From the blog of Chris Sacca, a venture investor, company advisor and former Head of Special Initiatives at Google:

Thank You, Auctomatic

Today, my portfolio company Auctomatic announced their sale to Canadian acquirer Live Current Media. There are so many things I could type after working with the founders this past year, countless lessons learned. However, typing from the back of a cab in Los Angeles on an EV-DO connection, I figure I have sufficient battery for just one real message -- thank you...

To build something incredible

Wednesday, March 26. 2008

Today is a big day for us. First, we have shed our old skin and emerged as Live Current Media Inc, an Internet commerce and content company. Congratulations to everyone at Live Current on working so hard to get us to the starting line. Truly, a great team effort.

Next, we're extremely fortunate to have the Auctomatic team join us. These guys are incredibly bright and bring with them product and technology expertise, connections and start-up mentality. Moreover, they are completely aligned with the vision. They understand that in a world of infinite choice, in a world in which 100s of companies are launched every week, success comes by reaching your audience cost effectively and providing them with an experience that exceeds their expectations at every encounter point. Like the strategy we've set into motion, they see Live Current as a platform for building industry defining experiences.

The Auctomatic team adheres strictly to the philosophy that the only way to build successful products is by placing the user experience above all other considerations. They'll apply this disciplined approach to the raw potential of the Live Current portfolio. Take perfume.com for example. Fragrance is a huge category with tons of opportunity. We have an incredible opportunity to transform that brand into a community/commerce experience that emulates the best of Totalbeauty.com, eBay.com, Amazon.com and Zappos. Or Cricket.com. Can we build cricket.com into the world's most engaging sports experience with a massive base of passionate fans - a powerful, rich experience that leaves sites like nfl.com, cbs march madness, mlb on the sidelines? What about other assets like Call.com? Could that become a web-based version of Skype? Or Communicate.com? Perhaps that can become a communications console that manages all our communication needs in a nuanced, seamless and highly productive way?  All of this is going to take time. But I'm excited by traction that perfume.com continues to gain. I'm excited by the capability and talent we are attracting. I'm confident that we'll be able to build something incredible. And that starts with having the right group of people around the table and time to get things pointed in the right direction. So, again, welcome Auctomatic.

And welcome to the new Live Current Media Inc. Buckle up folks. It's going to be a great ride.

Welcome to Live Current

Today's announcement of the new Live Current Media Inc. and the acquisition of Auctomatic marks a significant milestone for our company. Some of you who have been following the company for the last 14 years as Communicate.com Inc. may wonder why we've chosen to change the name, and the answer is simply this: we are a new company. As a new media company, we have a clear direction, strategy and the team in place to deliver on our mission of building, owning and operating some of the most engaging content and commerce destinations on the Internet.

The wheels are in motion and more good things are to come. Stay tuned as you see Live Current grow, evolve and deliver on our objective of building amazing consumer online destinations that enable users to discover more and get closer to the information they are passionate about in their daily lives.

A new company and an acquisition on the same day. For someone in the field of investor relations, could it get any better? This is feels a bit like my first day at the company more than 4 years ago, but even more exciting this time.

I truly believe that Live Current will be a company that will inspire and excite its customers, shareholders and employees.

I look forward to editing and contributing at the new Live Current blog, at which you will see contributions from an array of key Live Current / Auctomatic players, including Geoffrey Hampson, Jonathan Ehrlich, Becky Porter, Mark Melville, Alison Twiner, Patrick Collison, Harjeet Taggar and Phil Kast.

Things are obviously getting very interesting here, so please check-in at this blog often.
